VS-Schwenningen. Das Krematorium auf dem Waldfriedhof wurde heute vor 83 Jahren mit einem schlichten Festakt eingeweiht. Es kann auf eine bewegte Geschichte zurückblicken. Ohne bürgerschaftliches Engagement – den Schwenninger Verein für Feuerbestattung – wäre die Errichtung des heute unter Denkmalschutz stehenden Krematoriums nicht möglich gewesen. Seit seiner Inbetriebnahme im Jahr 1928 hat das Krematorium kontinuierlich an Bedeutung gewonnen. Waren es im ersten Betriebsjahr 33 Einäscherungen, so hat sich diese Zahl bis heute vervielfacht. Mittlerweile werden mehr als 2000 Verstorbene jährlich feuerbestattet – Tendenz steigend.
