POLICE are hunting for thieves who stole two urns from Enfield Crematorium. A devastated man from Essex discovered the ashes of his grandparents had been taken from the crematorium, in Great Cambridge Road. The ashes, which had been there for several years, were in bronze and stoneware urns, and would have very little sell-on value, Enfield Police said, but are of “extreme sentimental value”.

FOLLOWING a spate of metal thefts from a cemetery, Bromley police are taking steps to try and stop it happening again. Around 80 bronze memorial plaques were stolen from Beckenham Crematorium and Cemetery in September, as reported by News Shopper. Now the Clock House Safer Neighbourhood Team [SNT] have ensured every plaque in the cemetery is marked with a special liquid known as SmartWater.

Thieves have stolen 66 bronze plaques from a south London crematorium to sell for scrap, a council has said. Staff at Croydon Crematorium, located within Mitcham Road Cemetery, discovered the theft on Tuesday morning, Croydon Council said. The council said securing the site, where 150 plaques were stolen in June, was "difficult".

CALLOUS thieves took around 40 memorial plaques from a crematorium last weekend. The brass plaques are likely to have been stolen to be sold as scrap metal. It is thought the thefts took place between 7pm on Friday September 9 and 8am on Monday September 12 at Surrey and Sussex Crematorium, on Balcombe Road.

Thieves have stolen about 40 brass memorial plaques from the Surrey and Sussex Crematorium. Sussex Police said the plaques stolen from the crematorium in Balcombe Road, Crawley, had probably been sold to scrap metal dealers. Insp Zahid Khan said: "Having a plaque stolen from a loved one's grave is clearly a distressing thing to happen." He appealed for any scrap metal dealers who may have been offered the plaques to come forward with information.
