The speed limit could be lowered on a west Cumbrian road that is at the centre of concerns about fast traffic. Highways experts are recommending a new 40mph limit be introduced on the Distington Crematorium route – the C4011 – which links villages such as Pica and Gilgarran. A report to county councillors says concern exists about “perceived high levels of fast-moving traffic” using this route.

THE council is considering putting up the cost of funeral services by another 7 per cent. That is on top of the 10 per cent rise imposed in January. The move has been prompted by warnings that the community services budget is heading for a £125,000 shortfall. Increasing charges for the 1,700 services at the Park Wood Crematorium, in Elland, could raise £55,000 in a full year.

The borough council has recently completed major refurbishment works to Weymouth Crematorium. To mark the official re-opening, there will be an open day and re-dedication service at the Crematorium from 10am on Saturday 24 September. Government legislation means that where possible crematoriums must upgrade their inner workings to meet new environmental standards. Whilst this essential work was carried out, the council also made several improvements to the facility both inside and out, to make it more accessible and more welcoming for users.
