Concerned villagers have raised fears over plans to build a new crematorium in Swanwick.
The 7.6 acre memorial site proposed for protected open land between Sleetmoor Lane and the Wimsey Way Thornton’s factory would see 1,300 services take place there a year.
Proposals also consist of a 3,000sq ft building and a 7.5 metre chimney which developers say will be screened by mature trees.
But a consultation event on Friday held in the village by Oxfordshire based crematorium and cemetery developers Memoria, left many Swanwick residents dismayed.

3/11/2011 PLANS to include a cold storage unit at Salisbury’s crematorium have raised concerns.

3/11/2011 Haringey LBC has transfered the management of its cemeteries and crematoria to Dignity.
Under the 50-year contract, the council’s two cemeteries and its crematorium will be upgraded in line with modern carbon-emission rules.
Haringey’s current cemeteries and crematorium produce a small annual income for the authority, but the sites are in need of significant modernisation. The crematorium at Enfield, for example, will receive a £2m upgrade as part of the deal, while current staff at Haringey will transfer to Dignity.
A POOLE resident has funded a memorial artwork at the town’s crematorium, commemorating lost children.
Charles Dook donated £20,000 for the piece but died last year before getting the chance to see the results of his generous gift.
However his niece Alison Hewitt and her partner Wim Hogeveen came over from Canada to attend the official opening at Poole Crematorium.

29/10/2011 A Kent family say they'll never get closure after a crematorium scattered their dad's ashes without them.
Heather Brown, 50, from Whitstable, was devastated to learn Barham Crematorium had spread 86-year-old Leonard Stanley Adkins' ashes the day after he was cremated.
The family were present with a priest for the scattering of their mother's ashes in 2003 and had hoped to do the same with their dad, pictured above with wife Gwendoline.
As Malta’s cemeteries become fuller the Health Ministry is considering the introduction of cremation as part of a policy to tackle the growing lack of burial space.
“The policy aims at addressing the situation in which the demand for more graves is getting bigger every year, and thus considers various solutions and options available... which range from building other graves and adding grave sites to options such as a crematorium,” a ministry spokesman said.

26/10/2011 Police have slammed cold-hearted crooks who broke into Tunbridge Wells crematorium.
The burglars broke into a lock-up adjacent to the crematorium at the site on Benhall Mill Road at some point between 4pm on October 17 and 8.30am the following morning.
They pinched a petrol lawnmower and 44 litres of red diesel from a fuel tank.
DS Martin Foord of Kent Police said: “Targeting this site is particularly callous, showing utter disrespect for mourning families.”
Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact police on 01622 604243 or Kent Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting crime reference BY/014380/11.

21/10/2011 AN environmental group has labelled the decision to privatise the running of Haringey's cemeteries as “disgraceful”.
The plan to hand the day-to-day running of the cemeteries in Wood Green and Tottenham, and Enfield Crematorium to a private firm was agreed by councillors in November last year to save money, with Dignity plc winning the contract earlier this month.
