MOURNERS will see a £100 rise in crematorium fees this year if a £1.92million project to improve facilities in the city goes ahead. The crematorium in Barrington Road has not been renovated in 50 years and needs to be updated in order to meet national standards and keep the site open. Funeral director Ian Newman, of I.N. Newman Ltd, has been campaigning for improvements there for about 30 years.

A man who faked his own death in an insurance scam was captured by police when they found his fingerprints on his own death certificate, it has emerged. Alfredo Sanchez and his wife Sophie carried out insurance frauds totalling GBP1.25 million to pay off large credit card debts . However, when Sophie handed crematorium officials her husband’s supposed death certificate, her husband’s fingerprints were later found on it.

Latest in series of rival facilities in the region earmarked for councillor’s land The latest attempt to open Aberdeenshire’s first crematorium will go on public display next week. The multimillion-pound centre is earmarked for a 14-acre plot of land between Longside and Stuartfield, near Mintlaw. The site at West Knock is owned by local councillor Albert Howie.
