Management at Dundee Crematorium have apologised to bereaved families after an essential piece of equipment broke down during a funeral service.
The crematorium is one of 33 run by funeral services company Dignity. A spokesman for the West Midlands firm said the mechanical fault affected the platform which lowers the coffin out of view at the end of the service.

1/3/2011 IT was 18 months ago when an ‘interested party’ revealed it wanted to buy the council-owned Bretby Crematorium and from then on the authority was ‘duty bound’ to find other bidders thus securing,what it said was the best value for residents.
Councillor Richard Grosvenor and chief executive Andy O’Brien stick by the claim and have now revealed that Midland Co-op, as the preferred bidder, wants to buy the Geary Lane site for £8 million, to be the company’s first crematorium.
PITSEA Cemetery is facing a grave problem.
It is rapidly running out of burial space with just 24 plots left, which will last for around six months.
This means new burials would move from the Basildon Council-run cemetery to one at Basildon crematorium, owned and run by the Westleigh Group – or to other council run cemeteries at Wickford or Great Burstead, which have spaces for more than another 20 years.
